Why Are People That Don’t Act Telling you What to Do?

I’ve been scouring the internet lately since I have way too much time on my hands…and I figure if I’m online I might as well try to improve my acting career while I’m online. So in all my searches, while I’ve found plenty of people giving out advice…mostly bad or rehashed/regurgitated from someone else or so generic that it’s hard to even know what to do with it..
. What I haven’t found is any people with real acting careers who are giving out advice that is somehow new, exciting, revolutionary, usable, and inspiring. What exactly is the problem? I think if someone is going to try to make a living telling you something, it’s a fair question to ask what exactly qualifies them to be giving you an opinion.

So I’ve looked…and looked…and looked…and…so far there is no one who either qualifies as having a sufficiently strong enough or recent enough career to believe that what they say is based on experience or that their educational materials are anything that I haven’t heard a million times before.

So am I being so stuffy about? Well acting is one of the most competitive industries/careers on the planet. Everyone wants to be one and most would do it for free so anyone who expects to be paid for it is in for a battle. Acting has been a part of my life for 10 years now…and that sounds like a long time…and it is…but as for how I feel, I’ve still got a ton to learn…the question is…do I know enough to teach others something unique, proven and actionable…and more importantly that will increase your acting potential. Well I am the living proof of what I would like to teach people, but now I have to figure out if what worked for me can work for others. I think it can, but how do I turn it into something usable and understandable because I have to admit sometimes it gets pretty crowded in my noggin and I can’t tell from from back and a sitcom from a crime drama.

For anything to work in this business it has to be comprehensive. You can’t simply learn to act just as you can’t simply have great headshots. Once you have the basics down, that’s when the real battle begins. There’s not enough room here to examine all the things that need to be covered and more importantly there is not enough time…meaning you can’t absorb everything all at once. Your brain would explode…which is cool when done with special effects, but not so cool when it’s really happening.

Hopefully this little video will give you some hope that the train is on its way to the station. Soon you will be able to climb on board and take an express journey to acting success.
