Where do I find background work?

Hey everyone,

I get asked a lot of questions about a lot of things on acting. I used to ask these questions myself but now that I’m the “expert” I realize I can’t in good conscious answer them because the answers would be worthless.

What works for me probably won’t work for you.

Here’s a short interaction between one of my members and I on the subject of who they should contact for casting or agency internships. It not only applies to that topic but to all topics. There are general rules for success but the specifics are up to you!

Hacktor Question:

I’m looking for casting agency internships and background work. Any suggestions on where to find them?

I’m just finishing Module 2 so you may cover this in later videos (referring to our Hack Hollywood course & membership).

David’s Answer:

You probably know the answers but you’re not confident enough in yourself. If you want to get somewhere/anywhere, you do homework first.

You don’t just get on the road and start driving. You pick a destination first.

Do your homework and figure out which offices would be best for what you want to do and just start showing up and telling them what you want.

It’s all extremely simple.

Sometimes the addresses are easy to come by and sometimes they aren’t but you need to develop your resourcefulness.

You are an entrepreneur and you need to start figuring things out and trying them and if you make mistakes, you correct them but you have to make mistakes to learn what you are capable of.

Ironically fixing your mistakes is how you will become confident in your abilities because one thing is certain: you are going to make mistakes!

I don’t think doing background work is good for much other than making a few dollars and seeing what life on the set is like. There are much better opportunities for relationship building and yes, Modules 3 and 4 in Hack Hollywood cover a lot of this.
