It’s Audition Season

Well for some it’s always audition season and for others never. Theoretically pilot season is over now, which is a downer since I didn’t read for any…except today I got my first pilot audition. It’s got to go on tape and I have a lot of tips for how to self-tape, rather than pay $50-$75 and have someone else do it…
Sure, they might have a nice looking studio but I prefer having more control rather than less. There’s nothing like a live room, but next to that I prefer my own set up.

So I’m reading for one of the leads in a series called Being Human…as in the opposite of Human Being…I just noticed that this second, haha! It’s a redo of a british series of the same name that is a mix of horror and comedy, likely similar to An American Werewolf in London, which was very tongue in cheek and yet horrifically disgusting at times. It’s another case of hollywood borrowing from britain…ironic because they usually don’t do a series for more than a season or maybe two in the UK and the US squeezes several seasons out of a series they stole like in the Office, which has far surpassed the success of the british original…possibly in overall quality as well…the overall quality of the american office is better in my opinion whereas the british version was pretty much all Ricky Gervais and a bit of his squirmy little ally. The rest of them were kind of boring…sorry!

So I’ve got a ten pager for tomorrow and it’s a ton of dialogue…goes to show you have to stay sharp because I haven’t had an audition of this size in several months and I’m feeling rusty…rusty but actually better. I think it’s a great role for me…boston cop, vampire with violence and a sense of humor…right up my ally. Been watching the departed for tips on boston accents. Still not sure if I’ll drop it on them in the audition since if it’s not good, it will hurt rather than help.

Oh well, time for bed…sleep tight my loyal minions!
