Act Like a Human

I always learn good things on the set…too bad I’m not on the set more often.  It’s funny too because we make so much out of booking a job and then to do the job better, we need to relax and act like nothing is happening until something actually happens…but we are always trying to avoid having emotional episodes but so many acting classes encourage us to develop our emotions, which is not really necessary.

We are fully available to our emotions, but most of us usually don’t have frequent experiences where our emotions are elicited…thank god.  Humans spend most of our time hiding our emotions because emotions create conflict and conflict is inherently dangerous.  So keeping that in mind, don’t seek to have emotions…just trust yourself enough to know that they will come out when they are needed.

The best way to ensure this happens is to relax and not make a big deal out of acting…it is only powerful when we are not really paying attention to acting, but paying attention to the life that is being created in the story.

Once we can focus on that and not on ourselves, our true selves are free to reveal themselves.  I made a short little video which discusses my point a little further.
