Blog Post #130: Am I Too Old To Start An Acting Career?

Here’s another common question I get from actors that feel they’ve passed some imaginary age barrier.

HACKTOR QUESTION:

Hi David. I’m almost twenty-eight and have been sick since I was nineteen and just recently regained my health. At nineteen I had planned to pursue an acting career but circumstances prevailed. Now that I’m back in shape and looking good my dream has resurfaced in my mind and I don’t really want anything else. Is it a good idea to start this late in the game with no experience past what I did in highschool?

DAVID’S ANSWER:

Thank you for your question. That’s a very difficult questions to answer. I have no idea what is a good idea for you. I think it’s a good idea for everyone to pursue what they want in life because what else are you going to do with your life?

You might as well give it a shot. No one can tell you if you are going to make it or not. You will never know until you give it everything you have. If you are hesitating, then it gives me an indication that you already are thinking about all of the bad things that can happen instead of the good things that can happen and that is a problem right from the beginning. You have to be looking forward to good things happening and ignore the fact that bad things could happen.

Nothing in life that you want comes without first deciding to try. Just set the wheels in motion and see what happens. At least it will be a very exciting journey and whether you become a star or not, I can guarantee that something will happen and it probably won’t be all that bad so why think about it any longer? Sign up for Hack Hollywood and start chasing your dreams before they are gone.

All the best,

David
